WHO ARE WE?
WHAT'S OUR GOAL?
We are a group of volunteer, pre-service teachers based in Calgary, Canada.
As part of our education program, we often discuss topics of diversity. This includes challenging our biases and learning as much as possible about people who are different from ourselves. We do this not only to become better, but also to aim for the standards of Alberta teachers.

We recently took a diversity course in Winter 2020. In this class, we explored ways that prejudice, discrimination, and privilege play out in our society. Not long after taking this course, George Floyd was murdered by police officer Derek Chauvin, and the Black Lives Matter movement picked up speed. The harsh injustice combined with our recent learnings left us wondering
how we could help.
After talking with friends and family, we saw a chance for us to pass on what we have learned to the community.
We have had first hand experience with uncomfortable conversations. We have felt (and continue to feel!) the fear of offending or making mistakes. We have experienced feeling overwhelmed while trying to gather resources.
As teachers though, we are also lucky enough to have learned strategies that we can use to take on these challenges so that we can start these conversations now, making today the day we strive to be better.
We would like to help the community gain confidence in learning about and sharing on these topics. There are many difficult conversations that need to be had, and we hope that with a bit of support and guidance, you can also Make It Today.
